In 2011, Sue and I decided to take a trip to Idaho. We had some free time in April, so hit the road to the north, meaning Idaho. After living in Utah for 9 years, we realized that we had not ventured into Idaho not even one time! So off we went, finding places to see and things to do.
We ended up in Twin Falls, Idaho and I remembered someone telling me about some waterfalls near Twin Falls. We ended up at Shoshone Falls.
We had no idea that these massive falls existed there. They were awesome! They are over 200 feet high, and about 1000 feet wide. The information at the falls said that more water flows over them then does the Niagara Falls. And they looked like it! They were beautiful and amazing!
Spring and early summer is the best viewing when winter runoff is highest. But I’ll bet they are spectacular any time of the year (wonder what they look like in winter?).
It costs a few dollars to enter the park ($3, when we were there) and there recreational facilities in the park, including playgrounds, picnic areas, swimming area at Dierkes Lake, which is upstream from the falls, and hiking trails.
If you are in the area of Twin Falls, it is well worth the visit to see these beautiful falls.
Here’s the map to Shoshone Falls Park, where the viewing area is:
